The Saturday Gardening Discussion Group brings together a welcoming community of horticulture enthusiasts united by a shared passion for gardening. From March through November, we gather on most Saturdays to exchange ideas, celebrate achievements, and learn from challenges - all with the aim of growing together in knowledge and experience.
Our conversations cover a wide range of subjects, including soil care, propagation methods, seasonal planting, and managing pests. Whether you’re an experienced gardener or taking your very first steps, you’ll be greeted with a warm welcome and benefit from the rich pool of shared knowledge within the group.
Together, we aim to improve our knowledge, refine our skills, and enjoy the journey of gardening - one plant at a time.
Showcasing our favourite plants. We bring along plants of special interest depending on the time of year and members are encouraged to bring along their plants for discussion.
We believe gardening is best learned together - in a warm, inclusive environment where everyone is encouraged to participate. Whether you're a seasoned grower or just beginning your journey, there's no need to feel uncertain or hold back. Here, curiosity is celebrated, questions are welcomed, and every member contributes to our collective growth, after all, we’re all learning.
We regularly share plants, bulbs, and similar materials to be cultivated and later returned for comparison. This collective activity gives us the opportunity to observe how different growing conditions, methods, and results unfold - enabling us to learn from one another’s achievements as well as the challenges encountered along the way.
Meetings will be held at the OPAL Centre, 55 Bedford Drive, Leeds LS16 6DJ, starting at 7:30pm and concluding at 9:30pm, with a short break midway for tea and biscuits. Visitors are warmly invited to attend. Plans are underway for meetings in the new year, 2026, with specific dates to be confirmed.
